Dave has been a New Englander his entire life, with his roots in Maine and having lived in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Dave’s passions are to paint New England seascapes and New England urban scenes. Although Dave came from an artistic family, he pursued a career as a financial adviser. Nonetheless, he continued to sketch and paint and attend workshops. In 2008 Dave enrolled in a studio painting program at the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester, NH, where he attended nights for four years. In 2013 he transitioned out of his successful financial career to pursue his passion and become a full-time artist.
Dave paints in an impressionistic style and his works are a combination of “En Plein Air” and studio work. Dave thrives on being out in nature and painting on location whether it be at the ocean or within a busy urban setting.
In 2015, Dave was selected to be the Artist-In-Residence at the Whistler House Museum of Art where he occupied the historic third-floor studio for over two years. In 2016 Dave was juried-in to the North Shore Art Association in Gloucester as an Artist Member.
Dave’s paintings are owned by several individual collectors as well as many institutions such as the City of Lowell; Boston Partners Financial Group in Andover, MA; Premier Beverage Corporation in Fort Lauderdale, FL; Lowell Community Health Center in Lowell, MA; Enterprise Bank in Lowell, MA; and the MKtix Company in Boxborough, MA. In 2016 ten of Dave’s paintings were selected for an exhibition in Boston at the Massachusetts State House. The exhibit was open to the public for over two months and was included in State House tours.
Dave occupies a studio at Western Ave Studios, 122 Western Ave, #531, Lowell, MA.

I am a “Scape Painter” – land, sea and cityscapes. My work is representational and an expressionist style. I work from a combination of “En Plein Air” and my own sketches and studies as references to use in my studio to finish up my paintings.
I draw inspiration from nature around me and the different moods of the ocean to the energy, pulse and excitement of an urban setting. I strive to utilize all my senses while painting.
There is nothing more thrilling and interesting to me then the entire process of creating a painting! The entire process is a journey that mirrors life itself in so many ways. There is such deep thought that goes into the original design and the composition to continuous problem solving and continuous decision making. As you get into the painting you realise some decisions you are making are flawed and need immediate adjustments or an another approach. You go through emotional highs and lows throughout the process with the hope of experiencing a sense of success and accomplishment with the painting. This is not always the case just like life itself but you continue on with the excitement and challenge of a new blank canvass and the start of a new unpredictable journey!
Among the many artist who have influenced me are John Singer Sargent, Edward Seago, Winslow Homer, Lucian Freud, Joaquin Sorolla and Aldro Hibbard.
